TURN ME ON TO AN OLD FAVORITE

Something about fall gets my juices flowing and I always think of that good old 80’s standby-BENETTON.  They’ve always had amazing knitwear, chunky comfy sweaters and crisp wool coats and soft colorful tights and Benneton is
classic for Fall wear!  I took a look at their stylebook for Fall of
2009 and I just think its SCRUMPTIOUS! Benetton is one of my Faves for
those bracing walks to the subway, evening strolls with the BF an
cuddling next to a fire sipping on hot chocolate…I just love Fall!

Just Looking…

There are a few things that I have my eye on and of course I cannot afford them so I opted on doing myself the favor of a groundbreaking activity that I call Kaboodle-ing. This activity can also be called Polyvore-ing or even Shopstyle-ing—either way these are forums where you can shop virtually from the comfort of your own easy chair. What makes it unique and LUSTFUL (and of course you probably know more about it than myself) is that you can get a complete outfit, a fabulous look that can be transformed into many all with the click of a mouse. Why do I find this new technology so wonderful? Because I am the sort of shopper who shops by piece. I pick something out thinking it would be a great accompaniment to something else and I never end up buying that something else because I’m distracted by the bright shiny things underglass by the painted lady passing out free spritzes of more somethings I don’t need. And the shopping experience ends up being a wash and I’ve just spent 80.00 on something that will be waiting in my closet until I get that other thing that it belongs with…Of course if I can even remember that she needs her mate.

Put ANYTHING your little hear desires on this glorious style sheet/ wish list / dreamboard thing-a-majig and format the heck out of it.  make it all cool like a magazine layout.  But watch out it becomes terribly addictive dreaming about $3,000 shoes and $400.00 jeans matched with your favorite nail polish—and some of the chicks on this site are UBER-GENIUSES at formatting and styling a blank canvas…you will salivate with envy after looking through a few of these.

Now with this I can actually go to the store and find like versions of what I’ve assembled OR exact versions (heh!) At this point all I can afford is the polish but…such is life, my dears…Here’s to dreaming!

Not an Expert…

I’m not going to lie.  I have been out of the fashion circle for quite some time.  Back in the day when I was in high school I was up on the latest trends and fashion and styling and make-upping and what have you’s.

Fast forward, college days graduate school and joblessness and suddenly your priorities change and fashion isn’t all that important when you have to worry about the lights going off.  Of course I would still have a knack for turning my dads old watches into necklaces or rummaging through his work shirts and turning them int dresses.

I learned some valuable lessons through those very lean years and mostly it was how to survive on barely nothing.

  • Creativity is your friend.  Shop at thrift stores and second hand places.  A brilliant piece can be screaming to come out of a 30 year old shabby work shirt.
  • Live well. Be happy. Take a walk and let the sun hit your skin.  When you have “nothing” you start realizing what you DO have.
  • Go online there are tons of Do-It-Yourself websites, from jewelry to clothes to interiors.
  • Putting aside this recent fervor to be trendier than the next–this Green thing is actually so freeing.  Making things from hand and using found materials and antique pieces are not only great for the environment they are a statement of our current cultural climate and really allow you to think in different more creative ways.
  • (I have been living green for over 8 years now, little did I know that being poor and living green weren’t all too dissimilar,
  • Finally throw away your hang ups about not having enough, or not having what you want.  This world is bountiful and rich with potential brilliance.  Take a moment be silent and figure out how you can be creatively economical.

Don’t get me wrong I am fashionable, but I’m not going out spending my rent on a pair of shoes.  I am fashionable in my head.  I have learned-very sadly- about restraint, and how to make do.  Also I have picked up on a lot of DIY lately and it totally rocks my world, so I still have fabulous pieces that I can no longer fit or wear but I re-purpose them into something completely new and original, like my dad’s watches in high school.

I don’t know if I’m really qualified to write about fashion or cool things but I do know that I’m qualified to write about things i like, trends I love and projects that I can share so my readers don’t have to spend lots of money for great items.  I have found my lust for fashion again, its sexy hot and dripping wet with possibilities.

I am as new to this as a pair of Louboutain’s in the back of my closet, unopened, poised to become a myth a fable-The Tale of the Poor Girl Who Had Nothing But Christian Louboutain Ankle Boots.

And in my head I guess that’s quite enough.
